Indias first DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE is WDM 1 .

The WDM 1s were the very first diesel locomotives of the Indian Railways and were used on the very first desielised express trains. They were imported from 1957 to 1959 and served the Indian Railways brilliantly till the 2000s.
They had very good specifications for their time but one drawback was that they had only one front cab, which necessitated the use of turntables. They are all now retired and scrapped except for one which is reserved in the National Rail Museum.
