#WHAT IS WDM & WAM :-
- MEANING OF WDM :-
You must have seen the code written in front of the Locomotive (ENGINE ) like WDM1 OR WAM4 & WAP7 . "W" shows the BROAD GAUGE of rail Track . "D" shows the type of engine like DIESEL ENGINE ( Engine e number after the code like 1 , 2 ,3 , 4 ,....indicates that the MODEL NUMBER of Locomotive.will be a broad gauge diesel engine ) . "M" Indicates that the engine is designed for MULTI UNITE . The number after the code like 1 , 2 ,3 , 4 ,....indicates that the MODEL NUMBER of Locomotive.
- MEANING OF WAM :-
"W" shows the BROAD GAUGE of rail Track . "A" shows the type of engine like ELECTRIC ENGINE ( Engine will be a broad gauge Electric engine ) . "M" Indicates that the engine is designed for MULTI UNITE . The number after the code like 1 , 2 ,3 , 4 ,....indicates that the MODEL NUMBER of Locomotive.
- MULTI UNITE OF SINGLE LOCOMOTIVE :-
Multi Unite Of Single Locomotives means that locomotives which can be used to pull both of the coaches. Means passenger coach and freight train coach can be pulled easily.
- WHAT IS MULTI UNITE OF DOUBLE LOCOMOTIVES :-
See this picture in which two DIESEL engines are connected to each other.
Two engines (same Traction) who can be combined with each other, to execute a heavy work. is called MULTI UNITE OF LOCOMOTIVES .
MULTI UNITE is for Engines whose Traction Ratio is same like WDM1 is connected with WDM2 there are two DIESEL Engines . Two different types of engines like WDM 2 & WAM 2 can never be combined together because one engine runs on diesel and another on electricity . ( Till now, this has never happened in Indian Railways.)
